Paul Amenta

Paul is a former Crown Prosecutor with over 30 years of criminal law experience.

Paul successfully prosecuted over 50 homicides during his career as a prosecutor. Upon retiring in 2019, Paul joined Dallas Criminal Defence. In 2020, Paul defended his first homicide with the firm head, I. Loui Dallas. Together they secured a not guilty verdict for their client who was accused of stabbing his neighbour to death in a public housing complex. Paul completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto and his law degree at the University of Windsor. He also completed graduate studies in Political Science at York University. Paul has participated in numerous public speaking engagements about criminal law issues. He is also fluent in Italian.

Noteworthy Results

2021

R. v. J.M. – 18 year old client charged with multiple offences relating to firearms and narcotics possession. Negotiated defendant’s release from pretrial custody. Charges withdrawn after extensive discussions with the Crown Attorney’s Office on defendant’s first out of custody appearance.

R. v. O.D. – Defendant charged with making anti-Semitic, racist and homophobic statements in a public place. All charges withdrawn after extensive discussions with the Crown Attorney’s Office.

R. v. A. C.M. – Client had previously entered guilty pleas to her third and fourth impaired driving charges. Successfully advocated for a short conditional sentence in her home.

R. v. B.S. – Accused charged with choking his two young sons to unconsciousness. All charges withdrawn after extensive discussions with the Crown Attorney’s Office.

2020

R. v. G.S. Murder. Client allegedly stabbed his neighbour to death in a public housing complex. At trial, with the head of the firm, I. Loui Dallas, established reasonable doubt and client was acquitted. The acquittal was ultimately upheld by the Ontario Court of Appeal.
